Measures to Ensure Food Safety

Safe food is essential to the maintenance of a sustainable and healthy lifestyle. To uphold the responsibility of ensuring food safety for the public, the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare in Japan develops and implements various policies based on scientific knowledge, and presents the following information for parties involved in food safety issues, including consumers, food business operators, and other stakeholders from various fields.

The objective of the government’s administrative activities concerning food safety is to protect public health by strengthening measures for ensuring food safety. These activities include regulation of the manufacture, import, and sale of foods, food additives, food apparatus, and containers/ packaging.
