Food safety is a critical topic which affects all human beings, the demand for cultivating talent in the area of food safety has never been greater in the world than at this time. To address this need a Food Safety Crisis Evaluation Course, as one of courses funded by the Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (TFDA), was held by the Center for Food and Biomolecules with Taiwan Association for Food Protection (TAFP). The training course was held in the C201 meeting room of Chung-Xiao Building of TFDA during May 21-24, 2012, aims to promote the development of food safety management and related policy.
The food safety course was designed by Dr. Lee-Yen Sheen (Director of Center for Food and Biomolecules) in cooperation with the Joint Institute for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (JIFSAN), Maryland. Dr. Charles Yoe (Professor of University of Notre Dame, Maryland) was invited as a speaker to speak about the issue of food safety. Additionally, a discussion with Dr. Jaw-Jou Kang (Director-General of TFDA) was held in order to construct future food policy.
Various topics were discussed including risk assessment, risk management, risk communication, food additive safety assessment, chemical risk assessment, microbial risk assessment, and other food safety related courses. There was a total of 230 members who participated and received certificates. 89 members attended the basic course and 47 members attended the advanced course.
