The promotion and establishment of the Taiwan Association for Food Protection (TAFP, Affiliate of International Association for Food Protection).

The International Association for Food Protection (IAFP) was established in 1911. The purpose of establishing this association is to provide global members with updated information with respect to food safety and the latest  advanced scientific technology related to food safety. The association also will help to enhance the level of food manufacture and service in terms of food safety. Besides, this organization can act as a critical bridge of communication among international food safety associations.

Thus, in 2011, Taiwan Association for Food Protection(TAFP) became No.48 affiliate of IAFP with great efforts made by a group of people: Professor Lee-Yan Sheen, Professor Cheng-Chu Chou at the Department of Institute of Food Science and Technology, Professor Chia-Yang Chen at the Department of Public Sanitation, Professor Chorng-Liang Pan at National Taiwan Ocean University, Professor Tsung-You Tsai of Fu Jen Catholic University, the Specialist Pizza Huang of the Food and Drug Administration, and also the assistance from the allies in the United States.

During the IAFP centenary celebrations, attended by a congregation of more than 2,500 participants from all over the world, Professor Lee-Yan Sheen from the Center for Food and Biomolecules at National Taiwan University accepted the affiliate Charter of the IAFP from the Managing Director of IAFP Dr. Jaykus and became the first Director of Taiwan Chapter of this international association.

For the smooth and effective functioning of this affiliate international association  local organizational committees were established for TAFP. Towards this, on February 22, 2012, the establishment and the first annual meeting of members were held during which the supervisors were elected.. On that day, Professor Lee-Yan Sheen was selected as the Director of this local association.

Through the establishment of this association, the practices of food safety in Taiwan can be enhanced. Also, this organization can provide updated information. Not only does the association assist in monitoring the issue of food safety for the public, but also it can help the food industry further understand international specifications. The association will have a substantial effect on the economic development of Taiwan.
